Consolidation and Expansion of Community Based Education in Afghanistan-Paktia

AABRAR has been implementing a community-based education project in Paktia province since October 2023 in partnership with UNICEF, following its transition from CARE International. The anticipated duration of the project spans 27 months and is projected to reach its conclusion in December 2025. The project encompasses 234 CBE classes, comprising 75 Accelerated Learning Classes (ALCs) and 159 Community-Based Schools (CBS). These educational efforts are being administered in 11 districts, namely Mirzaka, Sayed Karam, Ahmad Aba, Zurmat, Garda Seray, Wazi Zadran, Shuwak, Chamkani, Janikhail, Dand wa Pattan, and Zazi Aryoub, within Paktia province. The primary objective of this undertaking is to reach 8227 students, with a notable gender distribution of 7784 girls and 443 boys. This initiative is upheld by 312 active teachers across various grades, encompassing 78 Grade 4 classes, 5 Grade 1 classes, 1 Grade 2 class, and 151 Grade 3 classes. Moreover, the project entails providing teaching and learning materials to out-of-school students to facilitate their educational continuity. Furthermore, the professional development of teachers is ensured through capacity-building training, thereby empowering them to employ contemporary teaching methodologies effectively.
